JIG
The Joint Inspection Group (JIG) is the world-leading organisation for the development and training of aviation fuel safety standards covering the entire supply chain from refinery to wing-tip. Its standards are followed by over 100-member organisations globally, operating at more than 2,750 airports and supply locations worldwide.
The brief
I was hired to produce a training content for ground staff, and as aviation experts and safety professionals were the main audience, every detail needed to be accurate, down to the branding on the gloves.
Strategic approach & implementation
Animation required the creation of an aircraft refuelling scene involving a detailed model of a hydrant pump dispenser – a bespoke airport service vehicle with complex hoses and machinery – despite having very few reference materials. After contacting suppliers and analysing hundreds of images I produced a vehicle with detail accurate to the millimetre.
In just six weeks, I produced a four-and-a-half-minute animation, with voiceover commentary translated and subtitled in ten language versions.
I also created a multilingual microsite to host the content and a virtual reality version of the scene for use in safety presentations in both desktop computer and mobile phone versions.
The website was launched, and the animation premiered at an International Air Transport Association global conference, along with a press release, branded giveaways and flash drives with the content for use offline.
Measuring success
The animation attracted hundreds of subscribers to JIG’s new YouTube channel, along with thousands of views and repeat orders for their giveaway materials internationally.
It is now used as part of essential training for safe refuelling in the majority of the world's airports.
